Since 1989, the Ascension-Escuminac Volunteer Action Centre has been providing a vital service in the Ascension-de-Patapédia area of Escuminac, providing a vital home care service for beneficiaries.
The volunteer escort-transport service involves car transportation provided by a volunteer driver to compensate for the lack of personal resources of a person in need and to provide transportation with physical support and comfort during a medical appointment. This is a last resort service, primarily addressing the individual’s need for support.
To book your transportation with one of our volunteers, you must call us during our opening hours and at least 48 hours in advance.

Friendly phone calls and home visits are available to help seniors break their isolation.
We pair one of our valued volunteers with a senior to schedule phone calls or home visits. Our volunteers provide a temporary presence and a listening ear to the recipients.
To request a match, contact us at 418-865-2740, ext. 101.
Need emergency food assistance? We’re here for you!
The Ascension-Escuminac Volunteer Center offers food assistance to individuals and families facing food insecurity. If you’re going through a difficult time and need food as a last resort, we’re here to support you.
What is emergency food assistance?
Emergency food assistance provides one-time assistance that provides basic food items to people in crisis. This helps you get through a difficult time while you wait to find a lasting solution.
Respect and confidentiality: The service ensures confidentiality while respecting the dignity of each individual.
Book your emergency food assistance by contacting us (no emergency assistance will be provided without a confirmed appointment).
Call 418-865-2740, ext. 102, to schedule an appointment and leave a message on our voicemail.

Meals on Wheels delivers fresh, balanced meals to your home. Soup, main course, and dessert are served.
Lunch is delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays by our volunteers.

SécuriCAB was developed for all Quebec seniors who wish to benefit from this service to detect emergencies and provide greater security and peace of mind for themselves, their loved ones, and their caregivers.
SécuriCAB allows seniors who wish to do so to sign up for the daily automated call service. These calls will be made at a time agreed upon with the subscriber to confirm their well-being. If the subscriber does not respond, steps will be taken to verify the situation by a designated respondent or a community organization. If necessary, an emergency call will be made to the local police to ensure the senior’s safety.
Furthermore, the service will allow volunteer action centers (CABs) to optimize their work by reaching service users, volunteers, and partners with just one click to inform them on various topics. Simple reminders, with no commitment on the part of the subscriber, can be sent via the system. SécuriCAB thus complements the range of services already offered by CABs to help seniors stay at home.
To learn more about this service, contact us at 418-865-2740, ext. 101.
We have a thrift store in the basement. The entrance is at the back of the building.
We accept donations of clothing, books, children’s toys and games, kitchen items, and other small household items. However, we do not accept furniture, as our space is limited.
To drop off donated items, you must leave them on the front balcony of the building. We take care of bringing them in every day.
This service allows people in need to eat their fill during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, thanks to the generosity of the entire population and participating organizations.
Frozen meals are healthy frozen meals that allow beneficiaries with temporary or permanent loss of autonomy to supplement their diet.
Meals are sold at our offices during business hours.
To prepare your order or for more information: 418-865-2740 ext. 101
The price is $8.00/dish and $3.00/soup.
Collective kitchens are small groups of 4 to 6 people who pool their time, money, and skills to create, in four steps (planning, purchasing, cooking, and evaluation), economical, healthy, and appetizing meals that they take home.
Our groups are aimed at anyone who wants to cook for a better quality of life for themselves and their families, while also having the opportunity to get involved individually and collectively in their community. Everything is done with pleasure, according to the principles of popular education.
We have a facilitator who helps groups organize and cook together.
We can form groups in each village from Ascension to Escuminac. Groups usually cook twice a month between October and May of each year.
Registration is required with our facilitator, Maryse Pelletier, at 418-865-2740, ext. 106.
Volunteering is a meaningful activity resulting from the donation of one’s time, knowledge, and skills, without the expectation of compensation.
At the heart of volunteering are the notions of gratuity, freedom, and social commitment. The notion of commitment distinguishes volunteer work from everyday acts of mutual assistance. Indeed, volunteers commit themselves according to their interests, abilities, and availability to meet community needs. Volunteering is, above all, a story of love for oneself and for others. A story where we do good by doing good.
At the Ascension-Escuminac Volunteer Action Center, our volunteers are the heart of the organization. We have a volunteer manager on our team who is responsible for:
Recruiting, informing, and welcoming volunteers
Volunteer training
Volunteer supervision, support, and monitoring
Recognition activities

Our Seniors Outreach Worker (ITMAV) supports seniors aged 50 and over experiencing challenges by directing them to community resources.
Here is a description of the ITMAV program.
The ITMAV program involves identifying seniors in vulnerable situations and guiding them to appropriate services, in collaboration with community resources. ITMAVs therefore help break the isolation of seniors, as well as promote their independence and continued participation in their communities.
The desired outcomes for seniors are as follows:
To reduce the vulnerability factors caused by isolation;
To help keep seniors in their communities;
To help improve or maintain the quality of life of seniors.
